Holiday Closures and Service Adjustments

In observance of Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 16, 2026, the City of San Antonio and Bexar County have announced several modifications to municipal services. Residents should be advised that City Hall and most municipal administrative offices will be closed for the day. This closure includes all San Antonio Public Library locations, with the notable exception of the Bazan Branch Library, which officially reopens today following the completion of scheduled facility improvements. Services at the Bazan Branch will resume regular operating hours starting this morning.

Public safety and emergency services, including police, fire, and EMS, will remain fully operational. The 3-1-1 Call Center will maintain limited holiday hours for urgent concerns such as animal control or traffic signal malfunctions. Regarding waste management, the Solid Waste Management Department has implemented a holiday slide schedule. Garbage, recycling, and organics collections normally scheduled for Monday will move to Tuesday, February 17, with all subsequent collections for the week shifting back by one day.

Municipal Court: Warrant Resolution Program

Beginning today, Monday, February 16, the San Antonio Municipal Court is launching a specialized initiative to help residents clear outstanding warrants. This program is designed to make it easier for individuals to resolve traffic and Class C misdemeanor citations without the immediate risk of arrest. Court officials encourage those with active warrants to visit the Municipal Court in person or access online services to take advantage of these resolution options, which may include payment plans or community service alternatives.

Infrastructure and Road Construction Updates

Public Works and TxDOT continue to manage several major infrastructure projects across the city this February. Drivers on the Northeast Side should expect ongoing traffic shifts related to the I-35 Northeast Expansion (NEX) project. Additionally, the Loop 1604 North Expansion is entering a critical phase, with Segment 3 (stretching from I-10 to US 281) on track for substantial completion later this year. In the downtown area, the South Alamo Street improvement project remains active; while utility work has seen progress, motorists should anticipate continued lane restrictions between Market Street and East Cesar Chavez Boulevard as crews work toward a projected June 2026 completion date.

Public Health: Seasonal Respiratory Advisory

San Antonio Metro Health has issued an advisory regarding high levels of seasonal respiratory activity. Local data indicates a significant prevalence of the H3N2 influenza variant and a sustained increase in pertussis (whooping cough) cases throughout Bexar County. Health officials strongly recommend that residents remain up to date on vaccinations and practice preventative hygiene. Those experiencing flu-like symptoms are urged to seek medical care early to mitigate the risk of complications.
