A brief warmup before another temperature drop

San Antonio is expected to see a short-lived warming trend early this week before another cold front pushes into South Central Texas Tuesday night, setting up a noticeable cool-down and a small window for rain.

After near- and below-freezing conditions were reported across parts of the region over the weekend, temperatures are forecast to rebound on Monday, Feb. 2, with afternoon highs climbing into the 60s in San Antonio. By Tuesday, Feb. 3, warmer and more humid air ahead of the front is expected to lift highs into the low 70s, followed by a sharp drop after sunset as the boundary moves through.

What the front changes: wind shift, cooler nights, and a narrow rain window

Forecast guidance indicates the Tuesday night frontal passage will deliver cooler and drier air, with overnight lows falling into the 40s in San Antonio and colder readings in parts of the Hill Country. Conditions are expected to turn breezy around the transition, with gusts reaching around 20 mph at times.

Rain prospects remain limited, but the front could trigger isolated showers from Tuesday into Wednesday. The best chance for measurable precipitation is expected to be brief and low, with probabilities remaining modest and coverage expected to be spotty rather than widespread.

The midweek pattern favors cooler air settling in behind the front while moisture remains limited, keeping rain chances on the low end.

Midweek outlook: cooler days, colder Hill Country nights

Behind the front, daytime highs in San Antonio are projected to ease back into the 60s on Wednesday, Feb. 4, and Thursday, Feb. 5. Overnight lows are expected to remain in the 40s locally, while some Hill Country locations may dip close to freezing at night.

At this time, the midweek setup does not point to a widespread hard freeze for San Antonio, though residents in outlying areas—especially higher elevations to the north and west—could see colder morning temperatures.

What to watch for through Thursday

  • Timing: the cold front is expected Tuesday night, Feb. 3, with the coolest air settling in Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Rain: limited, isolated shower chances Tuesday into Wednesday, with many areas likely staying dry.

  • Wind: breezy conditions are possible around frontal passage, with occasional gusts near 20 mph.

  • Temperatures: low 70s Tuesday ahead of the front, then cooler highs in the 60s midweek and chilly nights.

Looking ahead: warming trend returning for the weekend

By Friday into the weekend, warmer conditions are expected to return, with highs rising back into the 70s and overnight lows generally in the 40s and 50s. The late-week warmup is forecast to arrive as rain chances diminish again across the region.
