Fire crews called before dawn to Denver Boulevard residence

A pre-dawn house fire east of downtown San Antonio caused heavy damage to a residence in the 1100 block of Denver Boulevard, near South Gevers Street, prompting an early morning response from the San Antonio Fire Department on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

Firefighters were dispatched at about 4:25 a.m. and encountered visible fire conditions with damage apparent from the front of the home. At the scene, officials described the structure as a total loss. No injuries were reported.

Interior access limited as conditions deteriorated

As crews worked the fire, access to parts of the structure was limited by damage and instability. Firefighters reported difficulty entering the home because of the conditions created by the fire, a factor that can slow interior suppression and increase the likelihood of extended overhaul operations once flames are knocked down.

Utility support was also requested. CPS Energy crews responded to assist on-site, a common step during structure fires when power or gas service may need to be secured before firefighters can safely continue operations.

The homeowner and a dog were able to get out safely, and the fire did not spread to nearby homes.

Displacement avoided for neighbors as crews monitored for hot spots

Officials said surrounding homes were not affected, indicating the fire was contained to the involved structure. After the main body of fire was controlled, crews planned to remain at the location to monitor for hot spots—hidden pockets of heat that can persist in attics, wall voids, and roof assemblies and, if not fully extinguished, can contribute to rekindles.

While the homeowner and pet were confirmed safe, the resident later left the scene. Authorities did not release an estimate of losses or a timeline for when investigators would complete an initial determination.

Cause under investigation

The origin and cause of the fire remained undetermined as of the initial response period. Fire investigations typically assess electrical systems, heating and cooking sources, and signs of accidental or intentional ignition, while also documenting how the fire spread through the structure.
