What’s confirmed for 2026 across the Austin–San Marcos corridor

H-E-B has multiple Central Texas projects scheduled for 2026 that range from small interior remodels to large-scale store expansions and at least one new store expected to open before year’s end. Several timelines and budgets are documented in state construction filings, while some projects have been adjusted from earlier target dates.

The developments are concentrated in fast-growing communities north and south of Austin, where the grocer is simultaneously updating existing footprints and adding new capacity to meet rising demand.

Remodels and expansions: a mix of small revamps and major construction

In the Austin-area suburbs of Cedar Park and Dripping Springs, two separate interior remodel projects are planned at $250,000 each. The Cedar Park work is tied to the H-E-B at 2800 E. Whitestone Blvd., with construction expected to run from February into May 2026. In Dripping Springs, a $250,000 interior remodel is scheduled for the store at 598 E. U.S. Hwy. 290 on a similar late-winter-to-spring 2026 timeline.

In Kyle, a significantly larger expansion is scheduled to reach completion in 2026. State filings list an estimated $28 million cost for an addition to the existing store at 5401 S. FM 1626, with a projected completion date of March 26, 2026. The same filing describes roughly 32,952 square feet of work.

In Bastrop, an expansion at the H-E-B located at 104 Hasler Blvd. has been delayed from an earlier plan that would have finished in January 2026. The updated expectation places completion in spring 2026.

New store pipeline: San Marcos targets a late-2026 opening

San Marcos is expected to see a new H-E-B open in 2026. A third location for the city has been under development along Interstate 35 at McCarty Lane, with state filings indicating a projected completion by October 2026. Local and company officials held a groundbreaking event in November 2025.

  • San Marcos (I-35 & McCarty Lane): new store project, projected completion in October 2026.

  • Cedar Park (2800 E. Whitestone Blvd.): $250,000 interior remodel slated for spring 2026.

  • Dripping Springs (598 E. U.S. Hwy. 290): $250,000 interior remodel slated for spring 2026.

  • Kyle (5401 S. FM 1626): $28 million expansion, projected completion March 26, 2026.

  • Bastrop (104 Hasler Blvd.): expansion completion now expected spring 2026 after delays.

What remains uncertain

While several projects have specific dates and budgets tied to official filings, construction schedules can shift as permitting, design adjustments, labor availability, and supply conditions change. For residents, the most visible near-term impacts in 2026 are likely to be phased construction activity at existing stores, followed by a new San Marcos location expected to come online later in the year.

For shoppers, 2026 is shaping up as a transition year: incremental remodels in some suburbs and major added capacity in others, with at least one new store expected to open in the region.
