Sentencing closes a major stage of a north San Antonio-area double homicide case

A Bexar County court has imposed two life prison sentences on Darrick Davon Oliver Jr. in connection with a September 2022 shooting at Rosé Bistro Bar and Lounge in Hollywood Park that left two people dead and another man wounded. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently, meaning they will be served at the same time.

The case stems from gunfire that erupted shortly after midnight on Sept. 11, 2022, inside and just outside the business in the 16000 block of San Pedro Avenue near Mecca Drive. Two victims — Justin Huchinson and Alaina Henderson — died as a result of the shooting. A third man survived after being treated for gunshot wounds.

What investigators and courtroom accounts say happened

Law enforcement and court-related accounts describe the episode as beginning with a confrontation inside the restaurant-bar. During the altercation, Oliver produced a handgun and fired at close range. Huchinson was struck in the face and was pronounced dead at the scene. The surviving victim was shot in the face and hand and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Henderson, who was not described as being part of the dispute, was struck outside the business and later died from her injuries. Investigators and court filings have characterized her as a bystander. Henderson had recently completed law school and was in San Antonio to celebrate a job-related opportunity, accounts in the case indicate.

Arrest and early case posture

After the shooting, Oliver left the scene before officers arrived. In the hours and days that followed, investigators identified him as a suspect and pursued his arrest outside Bexar County. Authorities located Oliver in Waco, where he was staying with relatives, and took him into custody in McLennan County.

During the initial phase of the prosecution, jail and court records reflected that Oliver faced a capital murder charge involving multiple victims. Over time, the case moved into a resolution that resulted in life sentences for two murder counts.

Key confirmed facts from the case

  • The shooting occurred just after midnight on Sept. 11, 2022, at Rosé Bistro Bar and Lounge in Hollywood Park.

  • Two people — Justin Huchinson and Alaina Henderson — were killed; a third man was wounded and survived.

  • Darrick Davon Oliver Jr. was arrested in Waco and later sentenced in Bexar County to two concurrent life prison terms.

The sentencing marks the conclusion of the trial-level process for the homicide counts while leaving broader community questions about late-night venue safety and gun violence to ongoing public policy debate.

With sentencing complete, the case now enters the post-conviction stage, where court records typically govern any subsequent filings, including potential appeals or administrative matters related to incarceration.
