Significant Delays on I-35 Northbound Lower Level

Commuters heading through downtown San Antonio should prepare for significant disruptions today, Tuesday, February 10, 2026. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has confirmed that the lower level of northbound I-35 is currently closed between the I-10 interchange and I-37. This closure, which began on February 6, is expected to remain in effect through February 20 to allow for critical bridge joint repairs.

While the upper level of I-35 North remains open to traffic, significant bottlenecking is expected during the morning and evening rush hours. Drivers are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes, such as using I-10 or I-37 directly, or utilizing surface streets like Santa Rosa or Flores Street to bypass the downtown core.

New Construction Starts on Loop 410 Westbound

Drivers on the city’s South Side will encounter new lane closures starting this morning. Beginning at 9:00 AM today, crews will initiate alternating lane closures on the westbound main lanes of Loop 410 between Roosevelt Avenue and Zarzamora Street. The work involves pouring concrete for traffic rail foundations and is scheduled to continue through the end of the week. Commuters should expect slow-moving traffic in the area and consider taking U.S. 90 or surface roads if traveling toward the Southwest Side.

Ongoing Work on I-10 and Loop 1604

Further construction impacts are noted on I-10. On the East Side, the left lane of eastbound I-10 at Houston Street is closed for bridge wall repairs. This specific project is slated for completion by 5:00 PM today, so evening commuters may see relief, but morning travelers should stay alert. Additionally, nightly re-striping and sweeping operations continue on I-10 between FM 464 and SH 130, with alternating lane closures expected again tonight starting at 9:00 PM.

On a more positive note for Northwest Side drivers, the final flyover ramp connecting westbound Loop 1604 to westbound I-10 is now fully operational. This milestone, reached late last week, is expected to provide substantial relief for traffic moving toward Boerne and the Rim shopping district.

VIA Metropolitan Transit Alerts

VIA riders should be aware of several construction-related detours affecting routes 2, 34, 36, and 42. Most detours involve temporary stop relocations near Roosevelt Avenue and South St. Mary’s Street due to ongoing infrastructure improvements. Furthermore, VIA is hosting an informational outreach event today at the Crossroads Park & Ride. Staff will be available from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and again from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM to discuss upcoming service changes scheduled for May 2026.

Commuter Recommendations

  • Avoid Downtown I-35: Use the upper level only if necessary; otherwise, bypass via I-10.
  • Allow Extra Time: Expect at least 15-20 minute delays on Loop 410 Westbound after 9:00 AM.
  • Monitor Real-Time Data: Use local traffic cameras and GPS apps to navigate around short-term incidents.
