Significant Disruptions on Loop 1604 and I-10 Interchange

Commuters on the North Side should prepare for heavy delays today as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) continues major work on the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project. Both the eastbound and westbound mainlanes of Loop 1604 at the I-10 interchange are closed through 5 a.m. Monday morning. Additionally, the westbound lanes of Loop 1604 are shut down between the I-10 interchange and the entrance ramp past Babcock Road.

Drivers are being diverted to the frontage roads, which is expected to cause significant congestion throughout Sunday. Law enforcement is on-site to assist with traffic flow at intersections, but motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area or use alternate routes such as Wurzbach Parkway or De Zavala Road. Starting tonight at 10 p.m., a long-term nightly closure will also begin at the intersection of I-10 and La Cantera Parkway for bridge construction, lasting through early March.

Downtown I-35 South Lower-Level Closure

A major new phase of the I-35 and I-10 downtown repair project began this weekend. As of Saturday, February 21, the lower-level mainlanes of I-35 South between I-37 and I-10 are fully closed. This closure is expected to remain in place through mid-March 2026. While the upper-level mainlanes remain open to traffic, significant bottlenecks are anticipated as vehicles merge. Drivers heading through the downtown core should consider using I-37 or I-10 as bypasses to avoid the lower-level construction zone.

Sunday Bridge Repairs on I-10 West

Further east, TxDOT has scheduled a specific mainlane closure on IH-10 Westbound for today, Sunday, February 22. From 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., lanes will be restricted from Linne Road to Trainer Hale Road to allow for crack repairs on the Zuehl Bridge deck. This work is weather-dependent and may cause slow-moving traffic for those entering San Antonio from the East.

VIA Metropolitan Transit Alerts

Public transport users should be aware of multiple detours currently in effect. Construction on the new VIA Rapid Green Line—connecting the airport to downtown—is causing utility shifts and road widening on Saint Mary’s Street and San Pedro Avenue. Several routes, including 7, 14, 36, 64, 77, 90, 93, and 97, are operating on detours today. Commuters are advised to check the VIA goLine or the mobile app for real-time schedule adjustments.

  • Loop 1604 mainlanes at I-10: Closed until Monday at 5 a.m.
  • I-35 South lower-level (Downtown): Closed through mid-March.
  • I-10 West at Zuehl Bridge: Lane closures until 5 p.m. today.
  • Losoya Street: Partial closures for resurfacing near the Alamo.
