Man in his 20s dies after East Side home shooting; police investigate dispute over money

Shooting reported near Cardiff Avenue and Latimer Street
A man believed to be in his 20s died after he was shot early Wednesday in an incident that began at an East Side home, San Antonio police said. The shooting was reported around 12:20 a.m. near the intersection of Cardiff Avenue and Latimer Street, an area close to Interstate 10.
Police said the man and a woman were at the residence when another person became involved in a dispute that centered on money. During that dispute, shots were fired, police said.
Victim transported before police located him
After the shooting, the person identified by police as the suspect ran into the home, according to investigators. The man who was shot and the woman left the area in a vehicle and went to a second location a short distance away in the 400 block of Honey Boulevard, police said.
From there, the wounded man was taken to a hospital, where he later died. His identity had not been released as of Wednesday morning, and confirmation is pending through the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Detentions at the initial scene; status of arrests unclear
Officers responded to the original shooting location and detained multiple people while homicide detectives began investigating. Police have not released the number of people detained or described their relationship to the victim, the woman who left with him, or the alleged suspect.
Investigators also had not said whether anyone has been formally arrested or charged, and police have not released a description of the suspected shooter.
What investigators are working to confirm
With the victim’s identification still pending, key elements of the case remain unresolved. Detectives typically seek to establish a clear timeline and separate what occurred at the first location from what happened after the victim left the scene.
- How many people were inside the home at the time the dispute began
- Whether the victim and suspect knew each other prior to the confrontation
- The circumstances that led the suspect to flee into the residence
- Whether evidence at the home supports the reported motive involving money
The investigation remained active Wednesday, with authorities awaiting the medical examiner’s identification of the victim and continuing to interview witnesses.
Police have not released additional details about the victim’s injuries, the type of weapon involved, or the circumstances under which the victim was transported to the hospital.
