Miniso expands in San Antonio with a new The Rim store opening February 28

A third local storefront arrives at a major retail hub near UTSA

Miniso, a global variety retailer known for low-priced licensed character merchandise and everyday household goods, is opening a new San Antonio location at The Rim on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026. The store is located at 17822 La Cantera Parkway, in a space previously occupied by pOpshelf.

The opening adds another tenant to one of the region’s highest-traffic shopping districts and places the brand within a short drive of the University of Texas at San Antonio campus, an area that has continued to draw new retail and dining concepts as growth on the city’s Northwest Side accelerates.

What shoppers can expect on opening day

The launch is scheduled to begin with a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting. The first 50 customers are set to receive $50 goodie bags, and the company’s blue mascot, PenPen, is expected to appear as part of the event programming.

Miniso stores typically emphasize high-turnover assortments that mix practical items with collectible products tied to major entertainment franchises. Product categories commonly include plush toys, stationery, beauty and personal-care items, drinkware, small tech accessories, and snacks. The retailer is also known for branded collaborations spanning properties such as Disney, Marvel, Sanrio and BT21, which frequently drive themed displays and limited-run collections.

How this fits into Miniso’s San Antonio footprint

The Rim store represents Miniso’s third San Antonio-area location. The company previously established stores at Ingram Park Mall and South Park Mall, expanding its local reach from the Northwest Side to the South Side while remaining centered on large-format shopping destinations.

For The Rim—already anchored by national retailers and adjacent to entertainment and restaurant corridors—the addition of Miniso reflects continuing competition among centers to attract brands that blend impulse-driven buying with social-media visibility. Retailers built around collectible “IP” merchandise have increasingly relied on frequent newness and event-style openings to build early traffic and repeat visits.

About the company

Miniso was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in Guangzhou, China. It operates a worldwide store network and has positioned itself as a mass-market lifestyle retailer focused on affordable goods and licensed designs. The brand has expanded across North America in recent years, with a strategy that often targets malls and major lifestyle centers where foot traffic supports frequent product refreshes.

With the Feb. 28 opening at The Rim, San Antonio gains another large-scale venue for the fast-rotating, character-driven retail model that has been reshaping portions of the variety-store sector.

Store hours for the new location had not been publicly confirmed at the time of publication.
