Emergency Winter Weather and Resilience Hubs

The City of San Antonio and the National Weather Service have issued a Winter Storm Warning and an Extreme Cold Warning effective Saturday, January 24, 2026. Forecasts indicate a sharp drop in temperatures along with significant precipitation and potential ice accumulation starting this evening. Residents are strongly encouraged to stay off the roads as bridges and overpasses become hazardous.

To assist those in need of warm shelter, the City is opening six overnight Resilience Hubs beginning tonight. These facilities will provide basic supplies, power for device charging, and free Wi-Fi through Monday, January 26. The following locations are active:

  • Copernicus Community Center: 5003 Lord Road
  • Garza Community Center: 1450 Mira Vista
  • Miller’s Pond Community Center: 6175 Old Pearsall Road
  • Normoyle Community Center: 700 Culberson
  • Northeast Senior Center: 4135 Thousand Oaks
  • Southside Lions Senior Center: 3303 Pecan Valley Drive

VIA Metropolitan Transit is offering fare-free travel to and from these hubs for those needing transportation to a warm space. Residents arriving at hubs should bring personal medicine, extra clothing, and necessary supplies; dedicated kennel areas are available for pets.

Major Infrastructure and Transportation Impacts

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has implemented a full closure of all lanes of Interstate 10 at the Loop 1604 interchange. This closure, part of the North Expansion Project, began Friday evening and will remain in effect until 5 a.m. Monday, January 26. Eastbound and westbound frontage roads for Loop 1604 at the interchange are also closed. Law enforcement is on-site to assist with detours, but motorists should expect significant delays.

Public Health and Community Notices

San Antonio Metro Health has issued a seasonal health advisory as flu cases reach high levels across the region. Residents are reminded that vaccine clinics remain available, including pop-up clinics scheduled for Saturday, January 24. Additionally, a nationwide health advisory from the CDC remains active regarding cases of New World Screwworm identified in northern Mexico; while no cases have been found in the U.S., local health officials are monitoring the situation closely.

The city's '2026 Housing in San Antonio' event is proceeding this Saturday to provide information on affordable housing resources. However, attendees are advised to check official social media channels for potential weather-related schedule shifts. Finally, the Landa Branch Library is temporarily closed for planned repairs, though holds pickup services and playground access remain available at the site.
