City Resumes Regular Operations

The City of San Antonio has officially transitioned back to regular operations today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Following a period of extreme cold and icy conditions that limited non-essential services over the weekend, all municipal facilities and standard city services have returned to their normal schedules. All non-essential employees previously working remotely or on standby have been cleared to return to their designated work sites.

Overnight Shelter and Warming Center Updates

While the city returns to business as usual, emergency support for vulnerable populations remains active due to lingering low temperatures. The following measures are in effect through Tuesday night:

  • Overnight Shelters: Emergency shelter options for unhoused neighbors and their pets will continue through Tuesday night at all previously activated locations to ensure no resident is left without a warm place to stay.
  • Corazon San Antonio: This facility remains open with expanded capacity for up to 100 individuals in need of immediate assistance and warmth.
  • Resilience Hubs: City libraries and community centers have resumed regular business hours but continue to serve as a resource for those needing a safe place to stay warm during the daytime transition.

School District Schedule Changes

Due to concerns regarding overnight refreezing and hazardous road conditions on overpasses, several local school districts have adjusted their schedules for Tuesday, January 27, to ensure student and staff safety during the morning commute:

  • San Antonio ISD: Classes and administrative offices will start two hours later than the regularly scheduled time to allow roads to clear.
  • Goliad ISD: A two-hour delayed start is also in effect to ensure safe bus transportation.
  • Regional Closures: Districts in the surrounding Hill Country, including Blanco, Comfort, Harper, Ingram, and Kerrville ISDs, remain closed for the duration of the day.

Bexar County Judicial Extensions

The Bexar County Clerk’s Office has announced an emergency extension for certain legal and mental health proceedings. Under an official order from Judge Oscar J. Kazen, all causes set for formal hearing, as well as mental health detention periods and filing deadlines originally set for Monday, have been postponed 24 hours. These matters are now scheduled to be heard today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

Public Works and Road Safety Advisory

Public Works and TxDOT crews continue to monitor local infrastructure for lingering ice and debris. Residents are encouraged to stay alert to the following safety notices:

  • Highway Safety: Drivers should use extreme caution on bridges and overpasses where invisible ice may still be present.
  • Ongoing Construction: Standard nightly and daily lane closures for the Loop 1604 expansion project have resumed following the weather-related pause.
  • Solid Waste Services: Collection crews are on duty today. While residents should place their carts out as scheduled, some routes may experience minor delays as trucks navigate side streets.
