Spring Forward: Daylight Saving Time Begins

The City of San Antonio reminds all residents that Daylight Saving Time officially begins today, Sunday, March 8, 2026. Residents should set their clocks forward one hour. The transition occurs at 2:00 a.m., moving the time directly to 3:00 a.m. This change is part of the annual effort to extend daylight hours during the warmer months. Public safety officials recommend using this opportunity to test the batteries in home smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Public Safety: Severe Weather Alert

A weather advisory remains in effect for the San Antonio area this weekend. The National Weather Service has warned of a risk for isolated severe storms, potential large hail, and heavy rainfall. In response to these conditions, the following service adjustments have been made:

  • The annual Basura Bash watershed cleanup, originally scheduled for this weekend, has been postponed to Saturday, March 21, 2026.
  • Residents are urged to monitor local flood sensors at BexarFlood.org before traveling on low-water crossings.
  • City crews are on standby to address any emergency street closures caused by potential flash flooding.

Parks and Recreation: Facility and Trail Closures

The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department has announced several active closures for maintenance and construction project safety:

  • Playground Construction: Playground areas at Buckeye Park, Concepcion Park, Cuellar Park, Highland Park, MLK Park, and Southside Lions Park are closed for upgrades through April 16, 2026.
  • Greenway Trails: Portions of the Leon Creek Greenway near the Loop 1604 overpass and sections of the Salado Creek Greenway at Tobin Park are experiencing intermittent closures due to ongoing construction.
  • Bridge Work: The pedestrian bridge project over Perrin Beitel Road has resulted in restricted access between Wurzbach Parkway and Loop 410.

Traffic Advisory: Roadwork and Closures

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has scheduled the following impacts for Sunday, March 8:

  • IH 10 Eastbound: Full closures from the Ackerman Exit to the Loop 410 Exit are expected to conclude by 5:00 a.m. today.
  • US 90 Striping: Starting at 8:00 p.m. tonight, one lane will be closed on US 90 (both Eastbound and Westbound) from Loop 1604 to Montgomery Road for final striping work.
  • Loop 1604 Interchange: Major construction continues at the I-10 and Loop 1604 interchange on the Far North Side; travelers should expect delays and follow posted detours on frontage roads.

San Antonio International Airport Travel Advisory

San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is currently experiencing peak travel volumes for the Spring Break season. Between March 6 and March 15, approximately 328,000 travelers are expected. Passengers are advised to arrive at the terminal at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours for international departures to account for increased TSA screening times.
