Public Bulletin: Major I-35 and Loop 1604 Closures, Vaccine Clinics, and City Updates

Infrastructure and Traffic Advisories
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has initiated a major, weeks-long closure affecting downtown commuters. Starting this weekend and continuing through February 20, 2026, the lower level of I-35 North between I-10 and I-37 is closed to all traffic. This closure is necessary for essential bridge joint repairs as part of a $25.9 million downtown improvement project. While the upper level remains open, significant delays are expected. Motorists are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes to avoid congestion.
Additionally, significant construction continues at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange. For the duration of this weekend, from Friday evening through 5:00 a.m. Monday, February 9, TxDOT has closed the frontage roads for Loop 1604 in both directions at the interchange, along with the westbound frontage road for I-10. Nightly closures are also in effect at the intersection of I-10 and La Cantera Parkway between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. to facilitate ongoing bridge construction.
Public Health and Animal Services
San Antonio Metro Health is actively hosting pop-up vaccine clinics today, Saturday, February 7. These community-based events use health and equity data to bring essential immunizations to multiple locations across the city. Residents are encouraged to check local community center schedules for specific pop-up times.
In celebration of the upcoming championship game, San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) is hosting a "Super Adoption Weekend." Starting today and running through the weekend, adoption fees for all sheltered pets have been reduced to $25. The event includes shelter scrimmages and family-friendly activities designed to find homes for the city's "furry free agents."
Utility and Environmental Notices
The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) reminds residents that Stage 3 watering restrictions remain in effect as of February 2026. Under these guidelines, outdoor watering with a designated irrigation system or sprinkler is restricted to specific hours on assigned days to preserve the Edwards Aquifer levels. Residents are also advised to monitor their plumbing for winter-related leaks to manage utility costs.
In recent legislative action, the San Antonio City Council has officially denied the Municipal Utility District (MUD) application for the Guajolote Ranch development. The unanimous vote followed public concerns regarding the environmental impact of proposed wastewater facilities on the northwest side. This decision halts the current progression of the 3,000-home project originally slated for the Scenic Loop area.
