The City of San Antonio has scheduled a Special Session of the City Council for Friday, February 27, 2026. A primary item on the agenda is a resolution regarding the censure of Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones. In addition to this resolution, the Council is slated to enter an Executive Session to deliberate on sensitive municipal matters, including economic development negotiations and the acquisition or lease of real property. Legal consultations are also scheduled to address collective bargaining agreements, pending litigation involving the City, and ongoing emergency preparedness protocols.
Major Transportation and Roadway Advisories
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the City’s Public Works Department have issued several alerts regarding significant infrastructure projects affecting weekend travel:
- I-35 Downtown Closure: The southbound lower-level lanes of Interstate 35 between Interstate 37 and Interstate 10 remain closed as part of a $25.9 million bridge repair project. This closure is expected to last until mid-March. Commuters are advised to utilize the upper-level lanes, which remain open, or seek alternative routes to avoid significant delays.
- US 90 & Loop 1604: Construction activities at the intersection of Loop 1604 and La Cantera Parkway will result in lane closures beginning at 4:00 p.m. on February 27. Crews will be conducting subgrade corrections and detour setup.
- IH-10 Eastbound Striping: Starting at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, eastbound lanes on IH-10 from the FM 1518 exit to the Zuehl entrance ramp will be restricted for permanent striping operations, weather permitting.
Public Health and Community Services
San Antonio Metropolitan Health District reports that influenza activity in the region has reached high levels, with recent data showing a positivity rate of approximately 17.74%. Health officials urge residents to seek vaccinations and practice preventative hygiene. Additionally, the City is currently seeking applicants for the Ready to Work Advisory Board; interested residents have until April 1, 2026, to submit their applications through the City Clerk’s office.
Community Events and Civic Initiatives
In observance of Black History Month, the City will host a Graphic Novel Launch Party today, February 27. This event highlights the African American Heritage Preservation Initiative and serves as a celebration of local history and art. Furthermore, the Mayor’s office has announced a proposal to establish a new Commission on Voting, aimed at identifying barriers and increasing voter participation across the metropolitan area.
