Critical Traffic & Infrastructure Alerts

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has issued several major traffic alerts affecting the San Antonio area for the weekend of February 14, 2026. Motorists should anticipate significant delays and are encouraged to plan alternate routes.

  • Loop 1604 & I-10 Interchange: A major multiday closure is currently in effect through Monday, February 16, at 5 a.m. Crews are performing bridge construction as part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project. This includes closures of the Loop 1604 East and West frontage roads and a weekend-long shutdown of the I-10 and La Cantera Parkway intersection.
  • Interstate 35 North/South: Main lanes at Schertz Parkway will remain closed until 7 a.m. Saturday, February 14, for bridge deck work. Traffic is being detoured via frontage roads.
  • Loop 1604 Eastbound: Starting at 8 p.m. Saturday, February 14, eastbound lanes between Nacogdoches Road and Ikea-RBFCU Parkway will be rerouted to the bypass ramp. This closure will lift at 7 a.m. Sunday.

Community Health & Safety Advisories

San Antonio Metro Health and regional partners have updated several health notices for the mid-February period:

  • Measles Alert: Following reports of confirmed measles cases at the regional federal detention facility in Dilley, city leaders and health officials are urging residents to verify their vaccination status. A special "Walk with a Doc" session focusing on community immunity will be held at Phil Hardberger Park today from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Seasonal Respiratory Virus Update: Bexar County continues to see high levels of H3N2 influenza. Metro Health advises residents to practice respiratory hygiene and stay home if symptomatic to reduce the strain on local emergency rooms.

Municipal Service Updates

The City of San Antonio has announced the following schedule changes and public service events for Saturday, February 14:

  • Free Landfill Day & Hazardous Waste Drop-Off: Today marks the quarterly Free Landfill Day for Solid Waste customers. Additionally, household hazardous waste drop-off sites are open to residents from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Animal Care Services: In observance of Valentine's Day, ACS is hosting a "Head Over Paws" event with $0 adoption fees for all pets throughout the weekend.
  • Warrant Resolution: The San Antonio Municipal Court has announced a warrant resolution period beginning Monday, February 16. Residents with outstanding Class C misdemeanors can settle their cases without risk of arrest.
  • Library Services: The Bazan Branch Library remains closed today for scheduled improvements but will resume full services on Monday, February 16.

City Council Legislative Actions

On Thursday, February 12, the San Antonio City Council passed a resolution (9-2) directing city staff to evaluate strategies to challenge the establishment of a proposed federal ICE facility on the East Side. This includes exploring a potential moratorium on new non-municipal detention centers and reviewing utility service requirements for such facilities.
