Health Advisory: Regional Measles Alert
San Antonio Metro Health, following guidance from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), has issued a public health advisory due to confirmed measles cases identified in the region during January 2026. Health officials are urging all residents to verify their immunization records, specifically for the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine. Residents who develop a high fever and a red, blotchy rash should contact their healthcare provider immediately and avoid public spaces to prevent further transmission.
Public Works and Infrastructure Updates
Major roadway improvements continue across the downtown and West Side areas. The South Alamo Street project is currently in an active phase, with city officials projecting substantial completion by June 2026. Additionally, the Zona Cultural project on San Saba Street is reaching its final stages, with most segments now reopening to traffic. Residents should expect minor delays near Milam Park and the Historic Market Square as final landscaping and traffic signal work is completed.
- New Construction: Roadway and sidewalk improvements for Culebra Road and Toepperwein Road are slated to begin mobilization later this quarter.
- Waste Collection: There are no changes to the waste collection schedule today, Sunday, February 1. However, residents are reminded that the upcoming Presidents Day holiday on February 16 will result in a one-day slide for all garbage and recycling services that week.
