Public Health Advisory: High Respiratory Illness Activity

The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) advises residents that influenza-like illness activity in Bexar County remains categorized as “very high” by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). • Ensure all vaccinations, including flu and COVID-19 boosters, are up to date.
  • Practice frequent handwashing and stay home if feeling unwell.
  • Seek testing for symptomatic individuals to determine the appropriate course of treatment.

Additionally, regional health authorities are monitoring a CDC advisory regarding the New World screwworm following reported cases in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. While no infestations have been identified in the U.S. as of late January, residents are encouraged to report any suspicious parasitic activity in livestock or pets to local animal health officials.
