Sanko Texas to Break Ground in San Antonio, Establishing Its First U.S. Plant and Headquarters

Japanese plastics logistics manufacturer expands into the United States with South Side investment tied to regional manufacturing cluster
A Japanese manufacturer is set to begin construction of its first U.S. manufacturing facility and establish its U.S. headquarters in San Antonio, a move that adds to the growing concentration of industrial employers on the city’s South Side near Toyota’s assembly complex.
Sanko Texas Corporation is scheduled to break ground on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. at a site on Watson Road in southern Bexar County. The project marks the company’s initial manufacturing expansion into the United States. Local and regional elected officials are expected to attend, including Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai, San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones, Precinct 1 Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores, and District 3 Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran, alongside company leadership and business representatives.
The announcement follows earlier public documentation outlining plans for a roughly $40 million manufacturing investment tied to Sanko Texas Corp. and San Antonio-based Operational Technologies Corp. The proposed facility was described as a plastics production operation focused on logistics and material-handling products, including plastic pallets, crates, pails, containers, and packaging used in industrial supply chains, including battery-related packaging applications.
The new facility is planned along the Applewhite-Watson Road area, a corridor that has increasingly attracted manufacturers seeking proximity to major customers, shared logistics routes, and an available industrial workforce base.
In incentive discussions previously advanced at the county level, the project was associated with a target of 50 jobs by 2029, with a large portion of hiring expected to begin in 2026. Prior reporting on the incentive application described wage ranges for many roles from the mid-$50,000s to around $80,000 annually, with some positions above that level. The county’s action authorized negotiation of a 10-year property tax abatement structured at 75%, reflecting the use of local incentives as a tool to compete with other metropolitan areas for capital-intensive manufacturing projects.
The location also aligns with broader industrial development patterns around Toyota’s San Antonio operations, where the presence of a major vehicle assembly plant and its supplier ecosystem has helped anchor additional investment. Regional economic development groups have characterized advanced manufacturing as a fast-growing segment of the local economy, with continued recruitment focused on supplier networks, transportation access, and workforce availability.
Company milestone: First U.S. manufacturing facility and U.S. headquarters for Sanko Texas Corporation.
Site and timing: Groundbreaking scheduled for Feb. 11, 2026, on Watson Road in southern Bexar County.
Project scope (previously documented): Approximately $40 million investment tied to plastics logistics and material-handling production.
Workforce outlook (previously documented): Hiring plan tied to 50 jobs by 2029, with significant additions anticipated in 2026.
Construction timelines, final incentive terms, and operational start dates are expected to become clearer as the project moves from site ceremonies into permitting, facility development, and equipment installation phases.
