What happened

A 17-year-old was arrested in connection with a stabbing that left a 24-year-old man hospitalized after an early-morning confrontation at a Northwest Side apartment complex, San Antonio police records show.

The stabbing occurred around 2:30 a.m. Saturday at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Bandera Road. Officers arriving at the scene found the wounded man pressing a towel against his abdomen in an effort to control bleeding.

Police account and allegations

Investigators allege the victim told officers he was attacked by three men, including the teen later taken into custody. Witness statements included in the police report describe an argument that escalated into physical violence before the stabbing occurred.

According to the report, two witnesses said the group shouted at the victim, struck him in the face and knocked him to the ground. Police allege that while the victim was on the ground, the teen stabbed him in the lower chest area.

The case centers on a dispute that unfolded in the aftermath of a crash and later turned into a fight in the apartment complex parking area.

Events leading up to the stabbing

The police report indicates the confrontation may have been connected to a wreck earlier that day involving one of the attackers and a witness at the same apartment complex. Later, the victim reportedly went to a door associated with one of the men involved in the altercation to help the witness collect money, the report states. The confrontation that followed culminated in the stabbing.

Arrest and charges

Police said the teen was located and arrested Saturday afternoon during a traffic stop. He was booked into the Bexar County Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Victim’s condition and what’s next

Police said the victim was taken to University Hospital and was listed in stable condition. The investigation remained focused on documenting witness accounts and the sequence of events leading from the earlier crash to the overnight fight.

  • Location: Apartment complex in the 2000 block of Bandera Road

  • Time reported: About 2:30 a.m. Saturday

  • Charge filed: Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon

As with any criminal case, the allegations will be tested in court, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
