Two detained after Northwest Side apartment shooting left a woman hospitalized with a leg wound

What happened
San Antonio police detained two people Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, after a woman was shot at an apartment complex on the city’s Northwest Side. Officers were called to the 5800 block of Northwest Loop 410 near Wurzbach Road at about 11:40 a.m.
The woman, described by police as believed to be in her 50s, was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to her leg. Police said the injury was not considered life-threatening.
Conflicting accounts and the focus of the investigation
The woman told officers the shooting occurred during a home invasion. Investigators, however, said information developed at the scene did not support that claim. Police have not publicly described what evidence led them to that conclusion, and no charges were immediately announced.
Police indicated the inquiry would include a detailed search of the woman’s apartment as well as a second apartment nearby that belongs to her mother. Investigators were awaiting the arrival of the department’s Homicide Unit to process the scene, a step commonly used in serious shootings to document evidence, collect physical material, and conduct interviews.
What is known about the two detentions
Authorities said two people were detained for further questioning. Detention for questioning is not the same as an arrest and does not necessarily indicate that charges will follow. Police did not identify the detained individuals, did not say whether either person lives at the complex, and did not describe any relationship between them and the victim.
