What is known so far about a reported Northeast Side shooting, police response, and the ongoing investigation

Police activity followed reports of gunfire at a Northeast Side apartment complex
A reported shooting on San Antonio’s Northeast Side triggered a multi-hour police response this month after residents called 911 about gunfire striking parts of an apartment building.
The incident centered on the New Horizon Apartments in the 4800 block of Goldfield Drive, an area near Loop 410 and Rittiman Road. Officers were first dispatched at about 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, after a caller reported hearing several gunshots and said rounds struck windows and walls. No injuries were reported during that initial response, and no suspect was located at the time.
Second 911 call led officers inside an apartment where a victim was found
Police returned to the same complex the next morning, shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, after receiving a separate 911 call. Officers reported observing bullet holes on the exterior of an apartment unit. When they entered the unit, they found a 19-year-old man on the living room floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the victim as Jayveon Napoleon, 19, and reported that he died from a gunshot wound to the chest. The manner of death was listed as pending in the medical examiner’s update. Investigators have not publicly announced any arrests connected to the case.
Residents described bullets entering nearby units, raising safety concerns
In the aftermath, residents described damage consistent with gunfire traveling into neighboring apartments. One resident said a bullet entered a wall and ended up in a teenager’s bedroom, where it was later found inside a shoe. No injuries were reported in that account.
Police have not released details about a suspect description, a possible motive, or whether the victim was the intended target. Authorities have also not publicly confirmed the time of death and said the medical examiner would determine it.
Recent Northeast Side cases show different patterns of shootings near major corridors
The Goldfield Drive investigation comes amid other Northeast Side shootings in recent months and years that have occurred in and around apartment complexes and major roadways. In a February 19, 2026 case near Interstate 35 and Rittiman Road, police said an argument between two men at an apartment complex preceded a shooting in which a 51-year-old man was struck multiple times; the suspect fled and the victim was taken to a hospital. In December 2025, police reported a fatal shooting in the 2500 block of Northeast Loop 410 during a verbal argument in which both parties were said to have produced firearms.
