City Services Resume and Committees Convene

The City of San Antonio and Bexar County are moving forward with a full slate of government sessions today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, as municipal operations return to standard schedules following a period of inclement weather. Key activities today include a high-level review of workforce development programs and an advisory meeting focused on enhancing county accessibility for residents with disabilities.

Economic and Workforce Development Committee Session

At 2:00 p.m., the City Council’s Economic and Workforce Development Committee is scheduled to convene to deliberate on several pivotal initiatives. A primary focus of the session is the FY2026 Growth Stage Grant Program. Assistant City Manager Alejandra Lopez and Economic Development Director Brenda Hicks-Sorensen are slated to present recommendations for the program, which is designed to provide financial support to local businesses that have moved beyond the startup phase and are ready to scale their operations within the city.

The committee will also receive a comprehensive update on the San Antonio Ready to Work program. This briefing, led by Workforce Development Office Executive Director Michael Ramsey, will evaluate current target occupations and discuss how the city is aligning its training resources with high-demand industries in the current labor market. In a more unique agenda item, officials will discuss the potential establishment of a work group to explore the sale of City of San Antonio branded merchandise. This initiative aims to generate supplemental municipal revenue while further promoting the city’s brand to both residents and visitors.

Bexar County Technical Advisory Committee

Later this afternoon at 4:00 p.m., the Bexar County Technical Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities will meet at the Human Resources Training Room on South Flores Street. This committee serves as a vital bridge between the community and the Commissioners Court, providing formal recommendations on employment policies, program access, and facility improvements. Today’s session is expected to focus on ensuring equal accessibility across county departments and providing educational resources to sensitize county employees to the specific challenges faced by residents with disabilities.

Operational Context and Looking Ahead

Today marks the transition back to normal service delivery after city facilities and warming centers were activated over the weekend due to freezing temperatures. Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones confirmed that while resilience hubs saw significant use over the past few days, all non-essential operations have now reopened. As these committees meet today, city leaders are also preparing for a major briefing scheduled for tomorrow regarding the proposed downtown minor league baseball stadium and the development of a new Sports and Entertainment District.
