Public Notice: March 5 City Council Sessions, Library Closures, and Traffic Advisories

City Council Sessions and Public Participation

The City of San Antonio has scheduled two primary legislative sessions for Thursday, March 5, 2026. The City Council A Session is set to convene at 9:00 a.m. at the Municipal Plaza Building to address general city business. Later in the afternoon, at 2:00 p.m., the Council will hold a dedicated Zoning and Land Use Session. Residents who wish to provide testimony or comments during these meetings are advised that speaker registration officially closes 15 minutes before the start of each session. These meetings are vital for community members to participate in the local decision-making process regarding municipal policy and urban development.

Facility Notice: Public Library System Closure

The San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) has issued a notice confirming that all library branch locations will be closed to the public on Thursday, March 5, 2026. This system-wide closure affects all physical sites, including the Central Library and regional branches. While in-person services and book drops may be limited, the library's digital collection—including e-books, audiobooks, and research databases—remains accessible to all cardholders via the official online portal. Regular operating hours for all facilities are scheduled to resume on the following business day.

Opportunities for Public Service: Board Vacancies

The City Clerk is currently inviting residents to apply for several influential municipal boards and commissions. Serving on these boards allows citizens to offer their expertise to help shape city standards and infrastructure. Current opportunities include:

  • Building Standards Board (BSB): The city is seeking applicants for several positions, including roles for architects, engineers, and general contractors with experience in historic building reuse. Social workers and veterans are also encouraged to apply. The application deadline for the BSB is March 18, 2026.
  • San Antonio Water System (SAWS) Board of Trustees: Applications are currently being accepted for the SAWS Board. Interested residents have until April 9, 2026, to submit their qualifications for consideration.

Metro Health: Nutrition and Respiratory Health Advisories

In observance of National Nutrition Month, San Antonio Metro Health is promoting its 2026 campaign, "Discover the Power of Nutrition." Health officials are using this month-long initiative to educate the public on how dietary choices can prevent chronic illnesses. Concurrently, Metro Health continues to monitor respiratory health trends across Bexar County. Due to a sustained presence of the H3N2 influenza variant and a recent rise in pertussis (whooping cough) cases, residents are strongly encouraged to ensure their vaccinations are current. Health officials remind the community to practice frequent handwashing and to stay home if they experience symptoms of illness.

Transportation and Infrastructure Updates

Significant traffic adjustments are in effect this week as part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion. Drivers at the intersection of Loop 1604 and Blanco Road will encounter the first major implementation of Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) traffic patterns. Additionally, the VIA Rapid Green Line project continues with active construction across eight segments. Commuters should expect intermittent lane and sidewalk closures along the San Pedro Avenue corridor as crews perform utility adjustments. Motorists are urged to slow down in construction zones and plan for potential delays during peak travel hours.
