Incident reported near West Commerce Street

A woman was hospitalized after suffering multiple stab wounds during an argument on San Antonio’s West Side, police said. The attack was reported at about 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, in the 300 block of North Smith Street, near West Commerce Street, an area that sits along a busy transit and pedestrian corridor.

Investigators said the victim, 25, was found with stab wounds on the right side of her upper body. The injuries were described as serious enough to require transport to a hospital. Her condition was not released in the initial police report.

What police say happened

Police said the woman told officers she had been walking with her boyfriend when another woman approached them and began arguing. The suspect was described as a woman believed to be between 30 and 40 years old.

During the confrontation, police said, the suspect stabbed the victim twice with an “unknown object.” Investigators have not publicly identified the weapon, and no information was released about whether the parties knew each other or what sparked the dispute.

After the stabbing, the couple left the immediate area

Authorities said the victim and her boyfriend left the scene and later contacted police in the 1600 block of West Martin Street. The victim was then transported to a hospital for treatment.

Police said the suspect fled and had not been located as of the latest public update tied to the case.

How the investigation is likely to proceed

In cases involving a suspect who leaves the scene, investigators typically work to establish a timeline using witness interviews and available video from nearby businesses, street-facing security cameras, and transit-area surveillance where available. Detectives also generally seek to clarify whether the encounter was random or involved a prior dispute, which can influence how quickly a suspect is identified.
