Two 17-year-olds were hospitalized early Wednesday after being shot in a Schertz neighborhood, police said. Officers responded shortly after midnight to reports of gunfire in the 2100 block of Redbud Way, an area near Schertz Parkway and Maske Road.
When officers arrived, they found both teens suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said officers provided emergency aid until paramedics arrived and initiated advanced life support. The teenagers were transported to a San Antonio hospital for treatment; one was described as being in serious condition.
What investigators have said so far
Police characterized the case as an active, evolving investigation and said detectives are working to identify those responsible and determine what led to the shooting.
Investigators reported that two vehicles were seen leaving the area around the time of the gunfire:
- a white, mid-size four-door sedan
- a black SUV
Police have not publicly identified any suspects, said whether the teens were targeted, or released details about a possible motive. No arrests had been announced as of Wednesday morning.
Community impact and the immediate investigative focus
Overnight shootings in residential areas typically generate a time-sensitive evidence trail, including surveillance video from doorbell cameras, vehicle descriptions, and witness observations of the minutes before and after gunfire. In this case, investigators are focusing on locating the two vehicles described in the initial police briefing and identifying occupants who may have been involved or who may have witnessed key moments.
Police said two vehicles—a white four-door sedan and a black SUV—were seen fleeing the scene.
What information remains unconfirmed
Authorities have not released the precise circumstances of the encounter that preceded the shots, the number of shots fired, or whether additional people were present at the scene. Police also have not said whether the shooting took place outdoors, from inside a vehicle, or within a residence.
How to provide information
Police asked anyone with information—particularly residents who may have exterior security video showing passing vehicles around the time officers were dispatched—to contact the Schertz Police Department at 210-619-1200.
The incident remains under investigation.
